Annual sales growth of pharmaceuticals in the emerging markets is already in double-digit, providing a key opportunity for many MNCs to foray into Generics. Revenue streams in these markets can be derived from branded off-patent drugs, branded generics, and local brands owned or licensed by the acquiring pharma company. The number of in-licensing deals is increasing over recent years and all MNCs are actively seeking acquisitions and licensing agreements as a more cost-effective means of gaining access to Generics, and novel products than carrying out extensive in-house R&D.
